Mid November we got a call from our friend and colleague, Monica Friel from Chaos to Order. Chaos to Order is a company that comes into your life and gets things under control, specifically your things, and more specifically your over abundance of things. We’ve worked with Monica in the past in her home and periodically we have referred people to her as she has to us.
So one Friday in November Monica gave us a call and explained she had an opportunity to be on the Steve Harvey Show. Seems they were doing a show about a man who is so disorganized that his wife is on the verge of leaving him….or something like that. I’m sure the deep-voiced announcer selling the show makes it sound way more enticing. Anyway Monica, being the MOST organized person ever….knew that her time was tight. The show was scheduled to be taped the following Monday. She called in a favor and asked us to help spruce up the room after she was done clearing it out. She gave us a budget and we agreed to go off on a whirlwind shopping spree to get the items needed to make the room a little more presentable. We only needed to do the shopping, as the location was about 5 hours away. Sounded fun.
Long story, short…we left at 8 on a Sunday morning to begin our journey. They were calling for bad weather that day, but how often are the weathermen wrong in Chicago…so off we went. WELL, the pictures don’t begin to show the madness of the storm. We got caught in multiple stores, dodging rain, hail and flying branches. But there was a woman with a room that needed fixing and we were on the case.
We were told not much about the man….just that he had his own little cave….
yikes…kind of a mess..we knew we needed bedding, pillows and a color scheme for this guy…and more importantly for his wife. Being on a strict budget we looked for a starting point.
The pillows were it…they added a great pop of color that we could work with… we needed bedding. It needed to fit within our budget so plain gray it was..coverlet and dust ruffle. We thought the wood blind really brought down the space so we found cute ready made drapes and made our own laminated shade.
A little glue, some patience and a cute window…We found some decorative bulletin boards for Monica to do her magic with…and a bright green rug to match our color scheme while camouflaging the rust shag. We were done…we just had to make it though the tornado and get home….we did, but barely.
The show airs this Friday January 24. Our name should be in the credits. It’s our first brush with TV. It was fun..in spite of the weather.
